CHIP shop owners who asked people to swap their Sunday roast for fish and chips have spoken of their delight after raising over £500 for charity.

Tracy and Jez Groom, owners of Frydays Traditional Fish and Chips on Old Mill Lane, opened last Sunday, a day they are usually closed, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event was successful and raised £586 for Macmillan, who provide specialist support, information and financial support to those who are affected by cancer.

Duncan Owen-Elmer, who is trying to raise £53,000 for Macmillan was also present on the day, offering advice and information on Macmillan and the work they do.

Tracy said: “It was absolutely amazing, I couldn’t believe how busy we were. We had to close at 2.30pm, half an hour early, because we sold out of fish.

“It was wonderful to have Duncan on hand and he stayed all day which was great. We’re really pleased and thank you to everyone who came to support a great cause."
