STAGECOACH have announced bus fare increases which come into effect from tomorrow, in addition to introducing new group tickets.
The bus company have introduced a new 5 for a fiver ticket for a promotional period, which will mean that any group of 2-5 people travelling together on weekends and bank holidays can purchase a group ticket for £5.
This ticket will allow travel on Stagecoach buses across the whole of South and West Yorkshire (not including services X10, X62 and 737), between Sheffield and Chesterfield and within the Chesterfield megarider Plus zone.
An extension of the popular eveningrider ticket will allow customers to travel across the same area, plus between Barnsley and Haigh on service X10, for just £2.50 after 6pm any night.
Journeys between Barnsley and Leeds on service X10 will now be covered by the explorer and megarider Gold tickets, replacing the Leeds 1 day, 7 day and 28 day tickets, thereby regular passengers will enjoy a large saving.
The price of a Barnsley dayrider ticket will be £3.90, with 7 and 28 day products priced at £13.00 and £50.00 respectively. Some single and return fares will increase by 10p or 20p.
Stagecoach’s Barnsley dayrider Plus, valid for unlimited travel in Barnsley and the surrounding areas will be £4.60. The 7 day version will be priced at £15.30, and the 28 day at £59.00.
The Dearne Valley dayrider will be £4.40 with the 7 and 28 day version at £15.00 and £58.00 respectively.

"We are pleased to be able to offer the 5 for a fiver and eveningrider tickets to customers in new areas, which we hope will encourage leisure travel at an attractive price.
“However, we face a challenging economic environment due to rising operating costs and cuts to public sector spending on buses, meaning we have had to reassess our pricing strategy.
“The money from fares is reinvested into improving our services throughout the region so that we can offer our passengers the most convenient and safe travel options.
“We also continue to look for ways to make it even easier for our customers to pay for their journeys, including contactless payments on bus and the option to purchase mobile tickets via the Stagecoach bus app.”
