CHANGES to the Mi Card scheme will come in next month, We Are Barnsley can reveal. The scheme - which gives free off-peak bus travel to young people - has been changed after a round of swathing council budget cuts. The changes come into effect on August 1 and remove the free travel element of the Mi Card, instead youngsters would be charged 30p for each journey they make (instead of the normal 60p concessionary fare) which applies at any time of day. Coun Tim Cheetham said: "While I am delighted that despite the budget cuts we have been able to save the excellent and popular Mi Card for young people across Barnsley, I am particularly pleased that it was the users themselves, through their youth council, who were able choose how the scheme developed and changed.”
