A UPGRADE to the current CCTV system in the town centre is set to be approved next week.
If approved, the upgrade will increase coverage and provide higher definition images for supporting town centre policing and to provide clear identification of incidents.
The proposed system will also have the ability to provide innovative solutions in the future, supporting the development of a smart town centre.
Coun Jenny Platts said: “A new CCTV system in the town centre will support the ongoing improvements that we are already seeing such as the new Glass Works, Library @ The Lightbox and future public space improvement.
“The new technology will be a great step to aid our teams and partners to build a better Barnsley and provide increased public reassurance.”
