LOCAL high streets across the borough will receive funding to make sure centres other than Barnsley Town Centre benefit from regeneration work.

Almost £500,000 has been allocated to the district centres as part of a 'Principal Towns' fund, which was pledged when the Better Barnsley and Glass Works scheme was announced a few years ago.

A report to be presented to councillors breaks down funding awards including £272,000 for improvements to the High Street area in Goldthorpe.

In Darfield, £42,000 plus £5,000 of match funding from businesses has been allocated.

In Grimethorpe, £16,500 has been allocated towards improvements.

In Mapplewell, £100,000 will go towards the creation of a car park on waste land at Spark Lane and in Stairfoot, £52,450 with £5,310 of volunteer match funding has been allocated.
