RAIL fares increased by an average of 3.1 per cent today.
For commuters travelling between Barnsley and Sheffield, a monthly SY Connect+ which allows you to get the bus, tram and train across South Yorkshire train bus and tram has increased from £107.50 to £111.40, and increase of £3.90. Over the year it equates to almost £47 extra.
When the plans were initially announced, MP Dan Jarvis says the proposed increase in rail fares is ‘unacceptable’ on a network ‘not fit for the 21st century’.
