STUDENTS across Barnsley will be learning CPR today as part of Restart a Heart Day.

Students from Holy Trinity, Horizon, Outwood Academy and Springwell will receive visits from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and cardiac arrest survivors to provide training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Restart a Heart Day, is an annual campaign to provide training and raise awareness of the importance of CPR. The campaign is organised jointly by the British Heart Foundation.

Figures revealed that less than 1 in 10 people in Britain survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest, due to lack of knowlege by bystanders.

Jason Carlyon from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “CPR is a simple, easy intervention that can save the lives of patients in cardiac arrest.

"Community CPR events like Restart a Heart Day are essential so we can provide as many people as possible with this life-saving skill.”
