PLANS to open a pop-up museum at the Barnsley Main Colliery Site need donations and they have less than nine hours to reach their target.

The Barnsley Main Heritage Group have been raising the funds to create a pop-up museum to help people understand the importance of the coal mining industry to the local area.

Barnsley Main Colliery is a rare survivor of South Yorkshire’s rich mining heritage. The buildings stand as a reminder of an industry that powered the Industrial Revolution and shaped the lives of communities and they are Grade 2 Listed.

They need £4500 in order to begin the work and so far they have raised £4110.

Volunteers have put in hours of work into the site by clearing back growth around the area making it more accessible to the public.

In order to continue the project they have to raise the remaining £390.
