THIS week is organ donation week and the NHS is calling for more people to become an organ donor.
In the last five years, 168 people from across Yorkshire and the Humber region have died while waiting for a transplant.
In Yorkshire and the Humber, 70% of families agreed to donate their loved one’s organs for life-saving transplants last year, compared to a UK average of 66%, the third highest consent rate in England.
Anthony Clarkson, interim director of organ donation for NHS Blood and Transplant, said: "It's tragic so many people have died waiting for a transplant.
"People are dying every day because some families are not talking about donation."
