IMPROVEMENTS could be made to one of Barnsley's main roads in a bid to reduce congestion.

If planning is approved, updates will be made to the A628 Dodworth Road will be, which is one of the main roads into the town centre and to the M1 motorway.

The changes come as the population of the borough and levels of vehicle ownership have increased leading to queuing and standing traffic during peak times.

Coun Roy Miller said: “We need to make it easier for people to get in and out of Barnsley from the M1 at Junction 37. Better roads will improve travel times for local residents and encourage more businesses to invest in Barnsley."

An information session will be delivered to local residents and interested parties in due course and the proposed scheme will be subject to planning consultation.
