UNPAID carers will be able to use a free to access service which offers support and resources to improve their quality of life.

The Barnsley Carers' Service will provide a large range of resources including drop in sessions, information, advice, one to one provision, employment support, events and activities, befriending and assistance with accessing grant funding.

It will be run by national adult health and social care charity Making Space and the service launches on August 1.

Barnsley Council will invest almost half a million pounds in the borough-wide service over the next two years.

Coun Jenny Platts said: "This new service will bring real support to unpaid carers’ in our borough and strengthen our priority for people in Barnsley to stay healthier, happier, independent and active.”

You can contact the Barnsley Carers' Service on 01226 288 772 from August 1.
