THROUGHOUT the week Barnsley Museums have been celebrating the borough’s proud and exciting past.

As the heritage festival draws to a close tomorrow with the 8th Barnsley History Day at Experience Barnsley from 11am to 3pm, where visitors can browse stalls from local organisations and enjoy talks, tours, exhibitions and family craft activities, Barnsley Museums welcomes its brand new summer exhibition Bears!

The exhibition from Seven Stories The National Centre for Children’s Books features the greatest picture book bears in children’s literature.

As an incentive, the first 25 children into the exibtition on tomorrow morning will receive a free goodie bag!

Visitors to the Cooper Gallery will be able to meet literature’s most famous bears including Rupert and Winnie-the-Pooh, before discovering new stories filled with polar bears, panda bears and toy bears.

Alongside bears and bear stories the exhibition is an opportunity to see beautiful, inspiring illustrations from the creators of many favourite bear books and there is also the chance to gain an insight into the process of illustration with many artists using a combination of traditional and digital techniques.

Entry to Bears! is free and will be on display at the Cooper Gallery in Barnsley until Saturday 1 September. For more information visit www.barnsley-museums.com
