TEMPORARY road closures will be put in place tomorrow on West Street in Hoyland, to raise awareness of Barnsley's Active Travel campaign and mark National Clean Air Day.
In a joint project with West Meadows Primary School, there will be a temporary road closure on the road which provides entrance to the school at two times tomorrow (June 26).
The road will be shut between 8.15am and 9.15am and again at 2.30pm to 3.30pm to highlight the contribution of the school drop off and pick up times on air quality and to encourage children and parents to consider Active Travel alternatives, such as riding a bike, scooter, or walking to school.
The temporary road closure aims to make the school run more enjoyable for everyone involved, reducing pollution and congestion, giving children a place to play.
Stars South Yorkshire will be encouraging active travel with a free breakfast for each child that travels to school actively. There will also be a led walk to school theme organised along with various cycling activities due to take place on the closed road.
The councils road safety team will also be speaking about safe overtaking of cyclists as well as some street stencilling and Clean Air Day arts and Crafts.
