FREE weekend parking will be made available at 11 additional sites across the town centre this summer to mitigate the impact of the forthcoming closure of the multi-storey car park.

The multi-storey car park is set for closure at the end of July so that work to demolish it can begin. The car park is being demolished in order to facilitate the next phase of the redevelopment work including the new retail units, Cineworld and a new multi-storey car park.

To mitigate the impact of the closure, new measures will be put in place before the start of the new football season in August that will mean the closure of the multi-storey does not adversely affect town centre parking provisions.

11 sites will be made available for free weekend parking include the car park at Eastgate College, while free weekend parking will be available on-street at Burleigh Street, Thomas Street, Pitt Street West, York Street, Westgate, Churchfield, St Marys Gate, Eastgate, Falcon Street and Sackville Street.

The free weekend parking will be split into zones. In zone one, within 400m of the main shopping area, free parking will be limited to a three hour maximum stay.

In zone two, within 400m-600m of the main shopping area, the free parking will be available all day, so visitors, workers and traders who want and need to stay longer can still park a maximum of 600m away from the main shopping area.
