AS part of the Government plan to eliminate plastic waste, wet wipes are on the agenda to be discontinued over the next 20 years.

The wipes contain non-biodegradable plastic and are regularly flushed down the toilet. Wet wipes cause 93% of blockages in UK sewers.

A spokesperson for the Department of the Environment said: "We are encouraging innovation so that more and more of these products can be recycled and are working with industry to support the development of alternatives."

If manufacturers cannot develop plastic-free wipes, consumers will have to go without.
