INVESTIGATION work is ongoing after a fatal road traffic collision in Barnsley today where a 14-year-old girl died.

Officers were called to Doncaster Road just after 3pm following a collision between a green Scania heavy goods vehicle and a pedestrian.

Ambulance staff reported the collision, which was near to the junction with Heathfields and Vaal Street. The 30-year-old lorry driver was not injured.

Barnsley District Commander Chief Superintendent Scott Green said: “Our investigators are working to establish the full circumstances of this very sad incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family.”
