BARNSLEY will have to vote for a new MP if Dan Jarvis is elected as Mayor of Sheffield.

Dan Jarvis, MP, has been a Barnsley MP since 2011 but was selected to be a candidate for the position of Mayor by the Labour Party.

He initially stated he wanted to combine both jobs but it has been decided by Labour's national executive that MPs can not hold more than one full-time elected post at a time.

If Dan Jarvis is made the Mayor of Sheffield, Barnsley will have a by-election to elect a new MP for Barnsley.
