A BARNSLEY primary school along with the police has issued a warning to parents after a pupil was approached by a man in a van who offered them a lift to school.
Ward Green Primary says that Year 6 pupils were given safety advice following the incident last week.
The school has since contacted the police, who said: "Please be aware that we have had two incidents in the Worsbrough area where pupils have seen a black three door vehicle with a male driver driving slowly around schools at start times.
"On one occasion the male asked a pupil if they wanted a lift to school. This was declined and the male drove away.
"The local neighbourhood police team will be giving extra patrols in the area at school starting and finishing times to try and identify the vehicle and driver.
"If anyone sees anything they think is suspicious please contact the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency."
The school added: "Please also be advised that school staff will be present at the end and beginning of each day as always to ensure our children are safe as well as ensuring a quick response where needed."
