A NEW date has been set for the Barnsley Hospice Midnight Walk which had to be called off on Saturday due to the weather.

The Grange Lane events site - where the charity walk is run from - was waterlogged with forecasts of freezing temperatures and more rain throughout the night.

Organisers say it was a difficult decision, postponing the event which over 1,000 fundraisers had signed up for in a bid to raise over £100,000.

A spokesman said: "We were as disappointed as all of you but greatly appreciated your supportive and warm comments.

"We’d also like to say an enormous thank you for your fantastic help in spreading the word to other walkers. There were less than five cars that turned up in total on the night so job well done."

The new date is July 21.
