ROUTINE surgery has been cancelled at Barnsley Hospital until at least next month.
Operations such as hip replacements, knee surgery and other non-life threatening operations which people have chosen to have done in hospital will not take place before January 31.
It comes after the NHS National Emergency Pressures Panel (NEPP) recommended all NHS hospitals cancel all non-urgent surgery to free up capacity for the sickest patients.
However, it reiterated that cancer operations and time-critical procedures should go ahead as planned.
A spokesman for the hospital said the cancellations were due to winter pressures, including a rise in admissions.
