POLICE have launched an investigation after two thieves posing as gardeners stole a pensioner's purse from her home in Dodworth.
The incident in The Hollins took place around 12.30pm on Saturday, when the two men approached the home of a woman in her 70s, where they offered to do some gardening work.
While one of the men spoke to the woman, the second is said to have stolen the woman’s purse, before they both left the area.
It followed an incident 25 minutes earlier, where the men entered a house in Saville Road, before being confronted by the elderly occupants’ son and being asked to leave.
The men are thought to have been driving a white VW caddy style van.
The two men are both described as white, with one in his late 20s to early 30s and the other in his early 30s.
The man in his late 20s is said to have been around 5ft 2ins tall, thin, with short dark hair and spoke with a local Barnsley accent.
The second man is described at 5ft 7- 5ft 8ins tall, of a large build, with a round, clean shaven face and bushy black hair. He reportedly spoke with an Irish accent.
