POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery in Hoyland last night in which two thieves wielding an axe and a hammer stole from an off licence.
The two men - described as white, skinny, wearing balaclavas and aged between 18 and 20 - entered the off licence on Stead Lane at around 9pm before stealing alcohol and making off towards Elm Street.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Additionally, rumours on social media last night suggested that a stabbing had taken place elsewhere in Hoyland, but police have told We Are Barnsley that no incidents of that nature have been reported.
However, We Are Barnsley understands that a confrontation between a gang of teenagers outside the King Street Co-op resulted in a teenage boy being hospitalised due to injuries believed to have been caused by a glass bottle.
It's not known whether the incidents are linked.
An investigation has been launched into the armed robbery. Anyone with information is asked to report it via 101 quoting incident number 1050 of December 4.
