POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 78-year-old woman had her purse stolen by a heartless thief in the town centre.

The pensioner was walking across Westway from Wellington Street, heading towards Morrisons, sometime between 10.45-11.10am on Tuesday (October 3) when she was approached by a man.

As the woman walked onto the ramp leading into the car park of the supermarket, the thief pushed her towards the wall and stole her purse.

A police spokesperson said: "The woman was not injured during the incident but was understandably left incredibly shaken and upset by what happened.

"The man, who is described as white, about 5ft 3ins tall and of a slim build, left towards Wellington Street.
