A MAN was robbed by knife wielding thieves in Athersley yesterday lunchtime.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident, that hapened between 12.20-12.55pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday October 4 ) near New Lodge Post Office on Wakefield Road.

The 45-year-old victim visited the post office to withdraw some cash, and on his way home, was approached by a man and woman on Wingfield Road.

They pushed him to the floor and reportedly threatening him with a knife. They then stole a quantity of cash from him before running from the area.

A police spokesperson said: "The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of being knocked to the floor and has been left incredibly shaken and distressed by the incident.

"Enquiries are now ongoing to identify those involved and officers want to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who knows those involved."
