HEARTLESS thieves have stolen a bench from a memorial garden that pays tribute to those who have died in war.

The Cooper Memorial Garden - next to St Mary's Church in the town centre - is home to the Barnsley National Reserve memorial, and commemorates other military conflicts across the world.

The council said yesterday (Monday August 21) that one of the new benches - put in the garden as part of its recent refurbishment - had been stolen.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 with the reference number B/109595/2017.
