POLICE have issued a warning after a woman was assaulted on the Trans Pennine Trail near Dodworth at the weekend - leaving her with neck and head injuries.

The incident happened around 1.45pm on Saturday (August 12) when the 21-year-old was walking her two dogs along the trail close to Gilroyd Lane.

She was approached from behind and assaulted - causing injuries to the neck. She then fell to the floor and suffered a minor head injury.

PC Tom Key, Investigating Officer, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into this incident. Nothing was taken from the victim and there was no further assault.

“Because the offender was never seen, no more detail can be provided of his or her description.

“While we don’t want to alarm people, we do ask that anyone walking along the Trans Pennine Trail remains vigilant and reports anyone acting suspiciously to police immediately.”
