MORE than 70 homes in Darfield are being fitted with measures to protect them from flooding thanks to a grant from the Environment Agency.

Removable doorway barriers, airbrick covers, one-way valves for waste pipes and high-speed water-evacuation pumps fitted below ground-floor level are being fitted to properties at Doncaster Road, Riverside Close, Cliff Road and Church View - the properties worst hit by the floods of 2007.

A council spokesman said: "The council is trying to identify other funding opportunities to provide flood resilience schemes, similar to that in Darfield, for other communities."
