A BARNSLEY couple were assaulted in their own home by four burglars in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Detectives are asking witnesses to come forward after the couple's house - in Moorend Lane, Silkstone Common - was broken into around 3.15am on June 13.

Once inside the house, the four men are said to have assaulted the couple, a man and a woman both in their 30s, before leaving empty handed.

The couple were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries and have since been discharged.

A police spokesperson sad: "At this time, officers investigating believe that this was a targeted attack.

"While we appreciate this incident happened in the early hours, police remain keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or who knows who could be responsible.
