POLICE have told people to be careful what they post on social media after a teenager who is believed to have made threats towards a singer on Twitter was reported on summons to appear in court.

The 15-year-old boy from West Yorkshire, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is reported to have threatened an American singer on Twitter for when they perform in South Yorkshire.

Police have investigated the incident over the weekend and issued the teen with a summons last night (Monday, May 29). He will appear at court at a later date.

Chief Inspector Lydia Lynskey said: “We will always investigate any incident reported to us, and I would urge people to please consider what they post on social media, as while it may only be meant in jest, it could cause serious distress or alarm to a number of people.”
