POLICE are working alongside the council to tackle nuisance off-roaders this weekend.
A new operation will target illegal activity at West Haigh Wood.
The wood is a council-owned Local Nature Reserve that is thought to have existed as woodland since the last ice age - and does not have any areas for off-roading.
However, the council says that in the last few years, use of off-road vehicles has damaged tracks and harmed the wildlife - leading to local protection groups calling on the police for help.
They'll get their wish this weekend (Sunday May 14) when police will team up with volunteers to target targeting off-road vehicle users and issue advice - while the council has warned legal action could follow.
