LOCAL sport has been given a boost by Barnsley Council after it announced three local facilities will be given a funding injection.

Wortley Rugby Club, Darfield Cricket Club and Wombwell Rec will all receive a share of Section 106 funding secured from a local developer.

Section 106 funding is money that developers of larger sites pay to the council to reduce the impact of the development. Developers sign an S106 agreement as part of their planning permission. This is a legal document that specifies what the money is spent on and where.

Wortley Rugby Club is to benefit from £65,000, Darfield Cricket Club will receive £15,000 while Wombwell Rec will get £10,000.

The money will be used to improve and develop the facilities of each beneficiary.
