MOTORISTS are being warned to expect "severe" delays at Birdwell Roundabout from next month as work continues on roads in the area.
Phase 3 of the Highway Improvement Scheme will start at the beginning of May- which will include alterations to make Birdwell Roundabout bigger, and the implementation of the next stage of the traffic management plan.
As a result, there will be southbound lane closures on the Dearne Valley Parkway between Rockingham Roundabout and Birdwell Roundabout.
The pedestrian route between Hoyland and Birdwell will also be affected by a temporary diversion.
A Barnsley Council spokesperson said: "As a result of the diversions, severe delays in the area may occur until the works are completed in the summer, therefore residents and motorists are advised to allow additional journey time through the junction."
Full details of the temporary traffic diversions and pedestrian route diversions will be shared on the council’s website, social media and in the Better Barnsley shop located on Cheapside.
