POLICE have been targeting nuisance off-road bikers following an increase in complaints from locals.

Officers and PCSOs targeted Worsbrough, Stairfoot and Penistone at the weekend and seized both a quad bike and off road motorbike.

PC Stuart Kiley, who led the operation said: "In recent weeks we had received an increase in the number of complaints received from residents about the nuisance and dangers caused by off road and illegal bikes being ridden in the area.

"To the address the issues raised and work collaboratively with members of the community, the action taken as part of the pre-planned operation demonstrated the robust response we have taken to deal with the problem and keep our communities safe.

"The results we were able to obtain highlight the effectiveness of what was achieved and we will now continue to take this action and work proactively to stop illegal and nuisance off road bikes.

"If you have any concerns or would like to make a report about off road nuisance bikes in your area, please do not hesitate to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
