POLICE are hunting for a masked gunman and a masked man wielding an axe after they attempted to rob a garage in Barnsley.

The incident happened at around 8.20pm on Wednesday (February 22) at the garage near Spring Street, near the town centre.

The robbers threatened two men working there, demanding cash.

One of the suspects is said to have been carrying a gun and the other an axe. Neither of the weapons were used, however the garage workers were assaulted, suffering minor injuries.

Damage was also caused to two cars parked in the garage.

Detective Sergeant Pete Swift, said: “Thankfully, the victims were not seriously injured during the incident, however we are treating this as a priority and have a team of officers working to identify the men involved.

“I’d like to ask for anyone who saw what happened, or who knows who is responsible for this attack, to please come forward to help us with our enquiries.

“We are continuing to explore a number of lines of enquiry in relation to this incident and if you have any information you think could help, please call 101 quoting incident number 1088 of February 22 2017.
