POLICE in Barnsley are appealing for witnesses after two horses were poisoned after possibly being fed a mystery substance.
Police say the horses - kept in a field off Carfield Lane, Bolton-on-Dearne - ingested the poison between 10am-1pm on February 18, causing them to fall ill.
PC Lee Clarke, investigating the incident, said: “Thankfully, the horses appear to be on the mend, however the substance they ate has been confirmed as poisonous.
“Our enquiries so far have led us to believe that someone could have fed the horses this substance and we are investigating the incident.
“I’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at around that time and saw anything suspicious, or who knows anything about the incident.
“Please call us on 101 quoting incident number 727 of 18 February 2017. You can also give information to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
