MAJOR roadworks will start at Cundy Cross on Monday that will last until the end of the summer.

The works - to the roundabout and Littleworth Lane at the junction with Pontefract Road - will involve replacing the roundabout with a signal controlled junction, and alterations to Rotherham Road including a new signalled controlled junction to Meadow View.

The work will also include upgrading the existing traffic light controlled junction of Littleworth Lane and Pontefract Road, upgrading street lighting and signing and lining improvements.

Temporary traffic signals will be installed during the work, which is expected to be completed by the end of Summer 2017.

The scheme will be carried out by Barnsley Councils Highways, Engineering and Transportation Service (HET) and has been funded through the Department of Transport’s Integrated Transport Fund and Local Highways Maintenance Fund.

Money received from the sale of the former Priory school site will also be going towards the scheme.
