POLICE are investigating a report that a woman was raped in the town centre on Sunday morning.
Police say they received the report from a third party, and that the incident was initially thought to have occurred around Dog Lane.
However further enquiries have led officers to believe the incident happened sometime between 6.30am-7.13am on Pitt Street.
Dog Lane was cordoned off on Sunday morning while enquiries were carried out.
CCTV has been recovered from the Dog Lane area and viewed by police - however officers say there are no incidents that occur on the footage consistent with any form of sexual assault.
A police spokeswoman said: "Enquiries are continuing and the woman is assisting with the investigation and receiving support from specially trained officers."
