FORMER SHOPS opposite the May Day Green Market will be demolished from tomorrow to make way for the new library.
The Mayor of Barnsley, Coun Linda Burgess, will officially launch the start of the demolition at 9.30am tomorrow morning.
Coun Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “We’re committed to creating a vibrant, walkable, family friendly town centre full of opportunity and potential. This new facility is the next step in our vision and will be a fantastic asset for local people.
"We’re extremely excited about this next step in making a brighter future, a better Barnsley.”
The demolition work will be completed by Christmas with the building work due to commence in early 2017.
