RAIDS were carried out by police in Barnsley yesterday as part of a new operation that aims to crack down on criminal activity - and 10 arrests were made as result.

Police excecuted warrants and conducted visits to protect vulnerable people.

The planned visits and warrants executed, form part of operation Duxford, a force wide initiative to engage with the community, raise police visibility and protect vulnerable people.

The pre-planned raids used intelligence information to identify and protect members of the community with varying degrees of vulnerability.

Over the course of the day, there were 14 warrants executed and 10 arrests made for a number of offences.

On one of the raids conducted yesterday morning, equipment used to harvest cannabis was found at an address in Barnsley. The owner was identified and questioned by police at the scene.

The raids are still ongoing in Barnsley and if anyone has any information about criminal activity they are urged to report it to police on 101, or to alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
