FAMILY and friends of a mother who is almost blind are doing the National Three Peaks challenge to raise money for the Guide Dogs charity.
Amanda Barnett's husband Nigel, her daughter Rebecca's boyfriend Joe Pell and work colleague Jamie Grainger are hoping to raise £2,500 by climbing Mount Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis within 24 hours on June 1.
Amanda, 37, of Castle View, Dodworth, suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic condition which can lead to complete blindness, and has been on the waiting list for a guide dog since April last year.
She has about five per cent vision and uses a white cane to get around.
Rebecca, 20, said: "She found out she had it when she was 28 and it's got worse as she's got older."
Rebecca said if the group raise £2,500 or more, they may win a chance to name a puppy.
She added: "They are looking forward to it and we're pushing for as much money as we can."
