BARNSLEY is celebrating its best ever GCSE results.
The proportion of students achieving five or more A* to C grades, including maths and English, has increased by five per cent on last year’s results, to 55 per cent.
Another first for the borough is that results at this point are above last year’s national average.
Coun Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for People (Achieving Potential), said: “What fantastic results – our best yet.
“The students have demonstrated great hard work and commitment, which has really paid off.
"I’d like to congratulate them and wish them well for the future."
