TWO popular parks are set to become smoke-free under new plans by the council.

Locke Park and Elsecar Park will be the first of a number of play parks to become smoke-free alongside the introduction of town centre zones, hospital grounds and school gates and entrances, following consultation with the public.

The smoke-free zones will be managed through a voluntary code and there will be no enforcement action.

Council bosses gave the go ahead to smoke-free proposals last month, after receiving a report from senior public health officers recommending the introduction of smoke-free zones.
