LOCALS have started a petition to save the old Chicago Rock building from demolition.
Barnsley Council says the demolition of the building is under consideration following last week's fire.
The building, on the corner of Pall Mall and New Street, caught fire last Thursday (August 18).
The petition, started by Oscar Manterfield, calls for the structure to be save as it is a Grade II listed building.
It currently has over 70 signatures.
One supporter, Julie Oakley comments: "We need to keep this little gem. It's our history. My mum use to work there when she was 16 like many people of this town.
"We don't have much to be proud of in Barnsley at the moment, but this is such an historic place and we all should be proud to keep it alive."
