BARNSLEY is expected to feature in a programme about benefits on Channel 4 tomorrow night.
Britain’s Benefit Tenants aims to highlight the social housing crisis by going behind the scenes with letting agents who have tenants who are on benefits.
Andrew Dyke, from Goldthorpe-based agency 2 Let 4 Sale, has been taking part in filming for the last six months.
“Although we’re based in Goldthorpe, and there has been filming in the village, it isn’t just about Goldthorpe at all, and we’ve been filming across the Barnsley area and Doncaster too," he said.
“It’s not about the village at all, it’s about the problems faced day-to-day by letting agencies, and how the current benefits system is failing a lot of people.
“It’s highlighting the issues both tenants and landlords have with the recent changes and introduction of universal credit, benefits caps and sanctioning.”
The programme is on tomorrow night (Wednesday August 17) at 9pm, on Channel 4.
