POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was racially abused on a train that passed through Barnsley.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 23, at around 11pm on the 10.41pm Northern Train service from Sheffield to Huddersfield, that passes through town.
The train was packed with people travelling back from the Tramlines Festival in Sheffield.
Investigating officer PC Ewan Brechin said: “A man and woman on the service were seen to make extremely offensive racist gestures towards a young black man travelling on the same service.
“The man is described as 6ft tall, of stocky build with receding short, greying, ginger hair. He was sunburnt and wearing a short sleeved shirt.
"The woman is white, aged around 50, approximately 5ft 7ins in height with a tanned complexion and shoulder length white blonde hair. She was wearing a dress at the time of the incident."
