A&E waiting times at Barnsley Hospital have improved in the last few months - beating the national average.

New figures released by the NHS suggest that 95.4 per cent of Barnsley's A&E patients were treated within four hours in May - better than the national average of 90.2 per cent.

Barnsley MP Michael Dugher said: “The excellent staff at Barnsley Hospital are doing their best to deliver quality care and meet waiting time targets, despite the Government’s mismanagement of our NHS.

"The improvements Barnsley Hospital has made with regards to A&E waiting times in particular deserve praise."
