PLANS for a new £4million library in the town centre have been given the go ahead by Barnsley Council.
The library, designed to be ‘the beacon of the town’, will have floor to ceiling windows to allow light to illuminate the new public town square, which will be directly in front of it.
The council says the library will be a key feature in the Better Barnsley redevelopment, providing locals with a modern library and multifunctional space.
The design will offer IT facilities, a cafe and roof terrace with views over the town, offering opportunities for functions and events.
Work will start on the building in November this year, and is expected to be completed by February 2018.
