PLANNED changes to school holidays from 2017/2018 have been officially axed by the council.

Councillors agreed in March to cut the summer break from six weeks to four weeks and four days, with an extra week added in October.

But, following a backlash from some headteachers, who said they had not been properly consulted over the changes, the decision has now been reversed.

A wider public consultation will be held during the next school year - with any changes not taking effect until after 2018.
