DAMAGE to the Barnsley Pals Centenary Square has been repaired in time for tomorrow's Battle of the Somme commemoration.

Work to repair the damaged steps, paving and statue plinth began after local photographer Shaun Colborn noticed the damage when he was making his preparations for the commemorations.

There had been concerns that the steps would not be repaired in time for the ceremony, but the council have allayed those fears by confirming repairs have been completed.

The civic event to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme will take place outside the front of Barnsley Town Hall tomorrow (July 1) at 1pm.
