THE NUMBER of people killed on South Yorkshire's roads nearly doubled last year.

Figures released by South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership earlier this week show that 49 people's lives were claimed on the county's roads in 2015 - an increase of 23 from the previous year.

The figures also show that three people were killed on the road in Barnsley.

Last year saw a total of 4,401 casualties arising from 3,066 collisions on the roads in South Yorkshire – a drop of 3.4 per cent on the previous year.
